Water Quality Monitoring

The Norwalk River Watershed Association supports the Harbor Watch Program and its on-going monitoring of water quality in the Norwalk River and across Fairfield County, CT. Harbor Watch is based out of Earthplace in Westport, CT and has provided annual water quality reports on the Norwalk River for over 30 years. It tests water for bacteria, conductivity and dissolved oxygen. The CT Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) publishes its Integrated Water Quality Report every two years, which includes the Norwalk River and its tributaries.

The US Geological Survey also monitors the Norwalk River and does the only testing of pesticides in the river. NRWA partners with East Norwalk Blue and the the UCONN Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering lab to test rivers and streams in our area for the emerging contaminants, PFAS and lawn pesticides.
