Legislative Updates
It's time to ask your state representatives in the house and senate to support and co-sponsor these bills that will directly protect rivers, streams, wetlands and Long Island Sound.
HB 5334 An Act Concerning Riparian Areas
To create greater protection and preservation of areas immediately adjacent to watercourses in the state in order to preserve and improve the quality of such watercourses.
HB 5155 An Act Concerning Pesticide Reporting Modernization
To require the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to institute the use of modern technology and methodologies for the reporting of pesticide applications in the state and enable ready knowledge of where pesticides are being used, what pesticides are being used and the quantities of pesticides that are being used.
Spotlight on SJ37 The CT Environmental Rights Amendment
This bill if passed would allow voters to decide whether to add language to the CT constitution making clean and healthy air, water, soil and environment and a safe climate fundamental human rights.
Federal policies that have been the basis for environmental protections are being dismantled every week. Connecticut has the opportunity to join other states, like New York and Pennsylvania, and enshrine basic environmental protections in our state constitution.
What you can do now:
-
Ask your legislators to co-sponsor SJ37, the resolution to put the CT Environmental Rights Amendment on the ballot.
-
This campaign will connect you with your legislators and give you tips and talking points for your email to your legislators.
New Canaan Considers Gas Leaf Blower Ordinance
New Canaan may be poised to pass seasonal restrictions on the use of gas leaf blowers as Norwalk and other towns have done. Gas leaf blowers are super polluters, contributing fossil fuel and other chemical fumes, particulate matter, carbon emissions, and noise to our communities. They also harm wildlife habitat and desiccate soil.
If you live in New Canaan and are concerned about these environmental and quality-of-life issues, please consider making your voice heard before April 22!
