Join the City of Norwalk BioBlitz!
The City of Norwalk, in collaboration with the Norwalk River Watershed Association, Aspetuck Land Trust, and Oak Hills Nature Center, is hosting a variety of citizen science events as part of Norwalk’s first citywide BioBlitz.
A BioBlitz brings people together to explore and document the fauna and flora in their community. From bird walks and tree identification, to learning about pollinator-friendly plants, join us to get outside, learn something new, and help capture a snapshot of Norwalk’s local ecology!
As part of the bioblitz Explore the Pollinator Gardens at Oyster Shell Park, Saturday, October 10, 9:30-11:30AM: Take a Self-Guided Plant ID Tour hosted by NRWA and consider logging what you see on iNaturalist
Get to know the native pollinator-friendly plants growing across the park and consider signing up to join the volunteers who care for them every week. Visit the NRWA table at Oyster Shell Park on North Water Street (behind Sono Mall) from 9:30-11:30 and pick up a self-guided tour map! Oyster Shell Park is a great place for bird watching, too, so bring your binoculars!

How Dam Removal is Improving Water Quality and Wildlife Habitats Here and Across the State

Strolling along the Norwalk River below Georgetown, you might see sea lamprey, American eel, or river herring making their way upriver from the sea. These are sights no one has seen in a century!
We are witnessing the return of these species, along with many others, because of dam removal that has opened the bottom of the Norwalk River connecting it to Long Island Sound. More dams are recommended to come down along our river, including in Ridgefield and Redding.
Join us to hear from Save the Sound's dam removal experts Alex Krofta (Ecological Design Project Manager), Paul Woodworth (Senior Director of Ecological Restoration) and Trout Unlimited's Gerald Berrafati about the history of dams in Connecticut, why taking so many down now has become necessary, and the fish and other wildlife returning as dams come down along the Norwalk River.

Please come down to see how much the trees have grown. We will have halloween treats and beverages, good conversation, and wildflower seed sowing on the hill behind the forest.
