The Silvermine River serves as the border line separating the towns of New Canaan and Wilton for about a mile and a half. The river is especially visible and scenic at the southern end of this border section and slightly into Norwalk, along Mill Road and River Road. Several old mills operated along this stretch, and one forms the nucleus of today's Silvermine Tavern at the north end of Perry Avenue.

A small tributary, Guild Brook, enters here from the west. To the northeast lies the large South Norwalk Reservoir, which is fed primarily by Huckleberry Hills Brook. The connecting stream from the reservoir down to this point on the Silvermine River is called Belden Hill Brook.
