Half
way from the Wall Street area down to the harbor, the Norwalk
River is crossed by Interstate 95. On the west bank of the
river at this point is a fine city park surrounding the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion. Built in 1865-69 at a cost of $2
million (back then) by Wall-Street tycoon LeGrand Lockwood,
it has been called "the most sumptious private home built
in America up to that time".
