Solon
H. Borglum is best known for his sculptures and photographs
of horses, cowboys, and Native Americans, reflecting his life
as a young ranch-man in Nebraska. In 1906 he bought a farm
in Wilton and encouraged fellow artists to join him. In 1922
this group of painters and sculptors became incorporated as
the Silvermine Guild of Artists. Today the Silvermine Guild
offers art courses, shows, and workshops at its campus on
Silvermine Road in New Canaan. The brook that runs through
their back yard is, not surprisingly, called Guild Brook.
