BACK
to the Norwalk River.
Betts
Pond Brook starts near the southwestern corner of Norwalk's
Cranbury Park. In the early 1900's, this park was a the private
"Kensett Sanatorium", but today it hosts many public events
including an annual Highlands Games, which always brings large
crowds.
At
Allen Road, this brook encounters a group of small ponds:
14 Acre Pond, Betts Pond, and Woods Pond (connected through
Woods Pond Brook). The Beers map
of 1867 shows just one large body of water in this area, a
"Betts Reservoir", named after the mill operator who controlled
its outflow to run his downstream mills. A small North
Brook enters from the south slightly further down.
